Nancy is so loveable, in large part due to her “part-time girl” depiction. Nancy is not conventionally feminine in the way Bushmiller makes his prettygirls (no makeup, no heels, frizzy hair, chubby body), but she is also not a tom-boy. There is something really relateable, and honestly, rarely seen in print, about a little girl who likes to watch baseball games and eat lots of food and have snowball fights and who also likes to show off her new dresses and worries about if her little boyfriend is faithful.
I’ve known a lot of girls who love princesses and their new dresses and who wear their pink princess boots to kick home runs as they run around the field holding up their skirts and sliding in the mud.
